Sense Gratification:

Meaning:

The tendency to enjoy independent of Lord is termed as sense Gratification.

Process:

Sense enjoyment is independent of the sense object, but is a function of one’s perception of the sense object. If one approves that x object can give him happiness then there is an interaction between oneself and that particular sense object targeted towards the materialization of one’s belief and approval. What happens when one approves or believes that a particular object can give him happiness?? That process of approving or believing, releases our pleasure potency on that particular sense object, now the act of sense gratification is an attempt to take back the attached pleasure on the sense object.

The process of “dhyato visaya pumas…..” BG 2.62 “(contemplation on the sense objects) attaches the pleasure potency of the soul to the sense object. This is referred to as Visualization in the modern terms.

The gross act of enjoyment is the effect of that act which was already done in the thought level or in subtle level. In other words nothing can manifest grossly unless sufficient contemplation of that has happened subtly.

From all the above facts we can conclude that sense gratification is a process of mental concoction.
